After a very long labor, Lauren and Derek welcomed their first child into the world. Chloe was born the end of March at 19 inches and 7 lbs 7 oz. Lauren was so happy to have her healthy baby girl in her arms and thought "wow, she's so big". Now, two months later, she happily looks back at Chloe's newborn photos and realizes how quickly they grow...and how tiny she really was! A week later, I welcomed Chloe, Lauren, and Derek into my studio for Chloe's big day! She was very sweet and amazingly alert for just one week old. Something tells me she will be smart like her momma! Lauren was prepared and relaxed for the session. Of course, she was worried about Chloe not cooperating or peeing on me...but as I assure everyone...I expect it! Lauren was happy with the time and patience I took during their session...and look at some of the great memories we captured! Most new mom's are worried about how their newborn will do during the session. Newborn sessions are an investment, so its important that you feel comfortable with your photographer! Lauren said, "I was mostly worried that [Chloe] would be fussy, which she was, but Kirsten was super patient with her. I was also nervous that I was going to look enormous after having the baby a week prior, but Kirsten made me look amazing. I couldn’t be happier with how the pictures came out." As a mom of three, I completely understand!

On an unseasonably warm day in May, I had the pleasure of meeting the Day Family, with their newest addition. Emma was just 22 days new and super adorable! The lifestyle session was perfect because, when fussy, it allowed her to be in comfortable surroundings in their beautiful Canton home, cradled by mom and dad. Emma napped off and on, swaddled and held by her parents for the first part of the session. Then, we were able to capture some solo images of Emma.
Lifestyle sessions bring a warmth to newborn sessions. The pictures that result are personal and familiar. What wonderful memories to capture and pass to future generations. Lately, the KM Photography blog theme is LOTS of photos! I have had so many great sessions recently and I want to share them all with you. This session was no different and very special for me. I got a chance to work with the Magic Hour Foundation and donate a full family session for the Laferriere family (Jess, Brian, and Averie), who came to visit me in my Attleboro studio. I want to share some of my favorites from their session. Jess admitted that she was a bit nervous about the session, but at the end she told me how much fun she had (YES!). I enjoyed meeting her and her family and seeing them interact. All three of them were so sweet and the love between them was apparent. I think you'll agree that their love and fun personalities show through their portraits! The Magic Hour Foundation is one that pairs those in the fight against cancer with photographers for charitable photo sessions. The families receive digital images from their sessions, as long a beautiful box containing their prints. When I first started my business, I looked for a foundation to donate my time. Volunteerism is a big part of my life. My grandmother was one of my best friends and role models. She was always volunteering her time, even while battling lung cancer, until she was too ill to continue. Because of that, the Magic Hour Foundation was a perfect fit. It is near to my heart to give the gift of portraits to families affected by cancer and allowing their legacy to continue for generations through portraits. Jessica is a wife, mother, former US Marine, and also studied to be a dental hygienist! She lives with her husband, Brian, and young daughter, Averie. In July 2016, at the age of 33, she was diagnosed with stage 2b invasive ductal carcinoma. She was also a brand new mother of a 9 month old at the time of her diagnosis. In September, just 4 days after Averie's 1st birthday , she went in to have her right breast removed. She completed 8 rounds of chemo on 1/31/17 and 33 rounds of radiation on 5/18/17! It’s been quite the year, but she is still alive and enjoying her life and family! She is truly a strong woman and a survivor.
Little Miss Emerson...what can I say...the girl has personality! At just 10 days new, she was the most alert and curious newborn I have ever had the pleasure of photographing. She was interesting in lifting her head to peer around. I think she is preparing to be on her toes as the fourth little girl in her family!
She fooled me with big yawns a few times, but she did eventually fall asleep when swaddled tight. I think she wanted to be part of the experience and not miss a thing! It was a pleasure to photograph Emerson and her family, here in my Attleboro, MA studio. I can't wait to see how her personality blooms as she grows! Please enjoy a sampling of her newborn gallery! As a child, I looked forward to summer vacations on the Cape every year. It wasn't necessarily where we went, though I love that salty air, but it was about with whom I spent my time. My family would pack up and stay with an aunt and uncle and two cousins at their cabin in Wellfleet. Sometimes, my grandparents would come by as well. Each year we were a little older, but not much changed. It was comforting to see those same sights.
When I got the chance to do an extended family session at Onset Beach, I was thrilled! Everyone gathering together on summer vacation gave me a warm sense of nostalgia. I hope that when this lovely family looks over their images year after year, they have that same sense of nostalgia as well. |
