Becky and Jeff were excited when they found out Becky was expecting. From the moment little Ryan was born, his parents loved him and were in awe as new parents. Over time, Ryan has developed quite the personality. He likes to rest his hands behind his head when he is tired, just like his Auntie. His daycare calls him Grandpa for this very reason. He is also very social. His newest skill is waving at every person he passes. As Ryan was approaching one year old, his parents suddenly knew all the clichés were true: A year goes by so fast. In celebration of Ryan’s 1st birthday (and their first year as parents!), Becky scheduled a cake smash session with KM Photography. Having loved our work, Becky was happy to support her childhood friend’s business. Ryan had a good breakfast and was well rested; ready for his session! Like most one year olds, he didn’t sit still for long but we got great smiles from him during his traditional session. Then, during the cake smash, he sat and devoured the cake like an expert! His parents were nervous about whether he would cry too much or move too much, but said, “Kirsten was great with getting his attention and getting him to smile”. In the end, the Weeks’ family had a wonderful session that captured Ryan the Lion's personality at one. They have digital files to share with loved ones and the opportunity to purchase archival, legacy art that can be passed down to Ryan and his own children. Creating art is important to KM Photography and creating art for old friends is even more special!

On an unseasonably warm day in May, I had the pleasure of meeting the Day Family, with their newest addition. Emma was just 22 days new and super adorable! The lifestyle session was perfect because, when fussy, it allowed her to be in comfortable surroundings in their beautiful Canton home, cradled by mom and dad. Emma napped off and on, swaddled and held by her parents for the first part of the session. Then, we were able to capture some solo images of Emma.
Lifestyle sessions bring a warmth to newborn sessions. The pictures that result are personal and familiar. What wonderful memories to capture and pass to future generations. It was a wonderful privilege to photograph Jessica and Justine, two sisters and new mothers. They had a special surprise in mind for their parents! I drove to Justine's beautiful home in Canton to capture this special time in their lives. I had met Jessica and her daughter just a month or so earlier for their newborn sessions, when Jessica mentioned wanting to do this session for their parents. I was excited to see that Little Miss was alert and becoming less of a newborn. It is wonderful to see that progression in such a short time. She is lucky to have a (slightly older)baby cousin to grow up with. Even Charlie, the beloved family dog, was ready to take a portrait.
Lately, the KM Photography blog theme is LOTS of photos! I have had so many great sessions recently and I want to share them all with you. This session was no different and very special for me. I got a chance to work with the Magic Hour Foundation and donate a full family session for the Laferriere family (Jess, Brian, and Averie), who came to visit me in my Attleboro studio. I want to share some of my favorites from their session. Jess admitted that she was a bit nervous about the session, but at the end she told me how much fun she had (YES!). I enjoyed meeting her and her family and seeing them interact. All three of them were so sweet and the love between them was apparent. I think you'll agree that their love and fun personalities show through their portraits! The Magic Hour Foundation is one that pairs those in the fight against cancer with photographers for charitable photo sessions. The families receive digital images from their sessions, as long a beautiful box containing their prints. When I first started my business, I looked for a foundation to donate my time. Volunteerism is a big part of my life. My grandmother was one of my best friends and role models. She was always volunteering her time, even while battling lung cancer, until she was too ill to continue. Because of that, the Magic Hour Foundation was a perfect fit. It is near to my heart to give the gift of portraits to families affected by cancer and allowing their legacy to continue for generations through portraits. Jessica is a wife, mother, former US Marine, and also studied to be a dental hygienist! She lives with her husband, Brian, and young daughter, Averie. In July 2016, at the age of 33, she was diagnosed with stage 2b invasive ductal carcinoma. She was also a brand new mother of a 9 month old at the time of her diagnosis. In September, just 4 days after Averie's 1st birthday , she went in to have her right breast removed. She completed 8 rounds of chemo on 1/31/17 and 33 rounds of radiation on 5/18/17! It’s been quite the year, but she is still alive and enjoying her life and family! She is truly a strong woman and a survivor.
![]() The first time I met Audriana, I thought she was the absolute sweetest little girl. Gorgeous and tiny...a sweet little voice. I would soon realize, there is more to this little girl then sugar...she has some spice too! I don't think Audriana's parents will have to worry much about her when she gets older because this girl is MIGHTY and STRONG. At a summertime cookout, Audriana and my son Mason slowly warmed up to each other and played side by side. They may be less then a month apart, but what Mason lacked in communication skills compared to Audri, he made up for is SIZE! Soon, they both had their hearts set on the same power wheel. Audriana was in it, then Mason was in it...slowly building up tension. Before we knew it, Audriana was yanking Mason out by his shirt and then Mason was climbing the hood trying to get back at her. Never in my life was I so scared but also so amused! After that day, I was sure these two would never be friends, but low and behold, they get so excited to see one another! These tough cookies certainly impressed one another and I think they will have each other's backs for a longtime. Happy Birthday, Audriana! Each year you grow, you are closer to becoming an amazing young lady! |
